What Kind of Raft is That?
January 28, 2008.
Bill, a Waterblogged reader, asked, “What is the name for the type of raft that has two pontoons with one oarsman in the center. Are their trips with this type of raft?”

A Message of Change
January 21, 2008.
Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’ –Martin Luther King, Jr.
Each year on the third Monday of January, schools, federal offices, post office and banks across America close to celebrate the birth, the life and the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It is a day to remember his fight for the freedom, equality, and dignity of all races and peoples… a time to remember the message of change through nonviolence.

We teamed up with our partner Teva, the high performance outdoor footwear brand, for a one-of-a-kind rafting and product testing expedition on Idaho’s Main Salmon River last summer. The trip featured six days of rafting and five nights of camping, over 80 miles of Class III whitewater and two free pairs of Teva sport sandals. This unique vacation included the opportunity to meet the Teva Product Team and field test footwear for a real outdoor footwear brand. Check out our 2008 Teva Product Testing Trips.

Idaho River Report
January 17, 2008.
Curt, our operations manager for our Idaho river trips, just gave us some good news… The snow pack is doing very well. December was over 100% of normal in most areas except the south where the Owyhee drainage is. Since January 1, the storm track has hammered the area, especially the Owyhee basin so all are above 118% of normal, including the Owyhee. If this pace keeps up, it will be a big year. The bottom line: this is an excellent start to a potential end of six years of dry conditions.

Hello 2008…
January 16, 2008.
The Snow Water Equivalents (inches) for Central Sierra is at 96% percent of normal for this date —
significantly better than it was just a month ago when we were at 24% of normal. A series of powerful, cold storm systems brought some real precipitation to California in early January, along with heavy snowfall in the mountains. Translation: it’s looking to be a great
California whitewater rafting season.
